2012 MS Honor Band Information and Links to documents

Greetings!

This year, the District II Middle School Honor Band will take place on January 20th & 21st, 2012 at David Douglas PAC. Conductor will be Dan Ogren.
We suggesting that you collect fees IN ADVANCE of making official recommendations in order to guarantee that your students will attend the event. I like to use this Nomination letter with my students. Feel free to edit as needed to suit your situation.
Deadline for recommendations is November 12th, 2011. As usual, please rank your students and include any pertinent information as needed for assignment of parts. There is a 10 student maximum, and we will do our best to include as many of your students as possible.
Last year we had quite a few cancellations, so I am asking that you only send names of students that are a SURE BET to attend the event.

Middle School Honor Band

The roster and documents for the 2010-11 Middle School Honor Band are uploaded onto Google documents. The music came in today and we will work hard to get packets mailed out as soon as possible. One item was back ordered, so we plan to wait for a week or so to see if it arrives on time. Look for packets in about 2 weeks. Included will be a schedule with more details about the two day event on May 13 and 14th. Conductor is Andy Nelson.

The medical release form and contract need to be returned by every participant by May 13th along with payment of $35 made out to OMEA District 2. Students can turn those things in during registration.

OMEA District II Jr. Division Choral Festival

OMEA District II Jr. Division Choral Festival

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Parkrose High School, 12003 Northeast Shaver Street

Registration Form

The OMEA District II Junior Division Choir Festival will be on Wednesday, March 3rd at Parkrose High School, 12003 NE Shaver St., Portland, OR.

This event is an excellent opportunity for area middle schools and junior high ensembles to perform for evaluation and to grow from hearing a number of other groups perform. Please return your registration form with payment as soon as possible.

The event will include 2 judges providing written comments about your group’s performance and 1 judge will work with your group after its performance.

It is important that you give your students the opportunity to hear a few other groups but it is strongly suggested that you do not stay the entire day and that you stay with your choir at all times. You are responsible for the behavior of your students. Please remind them about appropriate audience behavior.

The registration fee for this event will be $100.00 per choir and we ask that only 1 choir per school enter. If there is room in our schedule, I will enter additional groups from your school on a “first-come first-served” basis.

Please make your checks payable to OMEA District II and enclose it with your registration form.

Registration is due Feb. 3rd. Mail form and payment to:

Helen Deitz – fest. Chair

Clear Creek Middle School

219 NE 219th

Gresham, OR 97030

You will receive times and other additional information regarding the festival by Feb. 19th.

Clarification on All State Notification

There seems to have been a glitch in the notification email that was sent out to you regarding your accepted students. Apparently the list of your students was sent to you with a NO or N/A and not being specific as to who was accepted. PLEASE check the OMEA home page to find the listing of your accepted students. The list on the OMEA website is the CURRENT LIST. Email me if you have questions. The music has arrived and the envelopes are being stuffed. Once I have been notified that all of your students have submited paperwork and payment, I will send you the music.

Be sure to have all paperwork and payments in to OMEA by November 20 at the latest. If not, your students will be removed from the list and an alternate will be selected. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Action Items - ALL MEMBERS

Sign up for a Google Account - we are going to begin using Google Documents to maintain judges lists, registration materials, event schedules, solo and ensemble room times, and any other documents that we want to share with each other.
  • Go to Google Docs and either create an account with your school email OR associate your school email with a pre-existing account...for more help see the "Google Documents How To..."
  • We would like everyone to do this by September 19th. Once we know we have everyone signed up, then we can begin sharing documents.
Attention David Douglas directors....you already have a Google Docs account. While in your Gmail, find the link at the upper left of your screen called "Documents". If you click on that it will take you to your Documents and you will probably already find the OMEA contact list shared with you there.

PLEASE NOTIFY ANN MCBRIDE as soon as you have your account set up....David Douglas folks, just let me know that you have found your Documents area.

This can only work as an effective communication tool if everyone gets on board.
